There are also free companion games for Microsoft Windows and iOS. It's lame. With the success of Disney Infinity, a sequel was almost inevitable, and with the great success of the Marvel properties since Disney’s acquisition, incorporating those characters into Infinity makes perfect sense.ĭisney Infinity 2.0 was released in the fall of 2014 for Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U and Playstation Vita. I would love to pickup the Guardians of the Galaxy set, but I don't feel like finding a lone disc for 2.0 (Since I have the portal for 3.0 which I believe is backwards compatible with 2.0) and starting an entirely new save in Disney Infinity 2.0. It's just weird to not carry them over when theoretically the game is running off of the same engine (as all characters and power discs still work).
It seems like the rationale is that all of the playsets are on the disc, and that you only use the game piece to unlock the content. Yeah it's a weird thing not to move forward. Wait a minute? According to their website all 2.0 and 1.0 playsets work with 3.0 reference but 3.0 won't work with 2.0 or 1.0. With Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition, all of your previous Disney Infinity 1.0 and 2.0 Figures and Power Discs will be compatible and work in the Disney Infinity 3.0 Toy Box. But I can't believe 2.0 playsets didn't carry over to 3.0. I know it would require some work for them, especially 1.0, because of the way 2.0 was so much different. I bought all the old playsets and I would even be willing to pay $5 per playset if it meant I could use them in 3.0. I also agree that 1.0 and 2.0 playsets should work with the latest game, given the fact that 3.0 is in stores now and you can be in that same aisle and purchase a 1.0 playset with figures and it wouldn't even work.
If you talk to the little characters in the Toy Box Hub, they will give you short tutorials on how to do things.
For me, I've just been along for the ride and each game has been an improvement over the last. I could maybe see how not having played the first 2 games that 3.0 could seem confusing. Skylanders has other problems (The idea that you need to purchase more figures just to see content is shitty), but atleast the game is polished and easy to comprehend. In the end i'm left with the fact that this game is supposed to be a kids game, but it feels unpolished compared to the competition. I understand why they don't work, but maybe the previous playsets should just be offered as free downloads for people that purchase the playsets? It's confusing when the previous figures work, but not the playsets. Also nowhere on the packaging do they note that you can't use 1.0 or 2.0 playsets in 3.0. Why? How do you get new sidekicks? It's not explained. For example I can't use my sidekick in any of the playsets. This game has so many things going on, between sidekicks, interiors, playsets, toyboxes, themed toyboxes, power discs, kart racing, it all just feels interconnected. The "Toybox" part of the game feels almost hidden, as they don't show it in any of the initial tutorial sequences, you have to find it. Almost nothing is really well explained, you just have to experiment to find out what it does. I find navigating 3.0 to be a chore, load screens are everywhere (I'm playing on the Xbox One). I was always under the impression that Infinity was just the playsets, and the toybox, and that was it. So i picked up 3.0, not owning a previous version of the game.
